Restaurant menu QR codes that survive price and item changes
Plan, print, test, and measure a restaurant menu QR code without tying the table card to one permanent menu URL.

A restaurant menu changes more often than its table tents, window signs, or counter cards. A dynamic QR lets the printed code remain fixed while the destination moves between a current menu, seasonal page, ordering flow, or temporary service notice.
Separate the placements you want to compare
Create distinct campaign codes for tables, windows, receipts, hotel rooms, and outdoor signs. Use consistent names such as location, placement, and month. Separate codes make scan patterns interpretable and allow one placement to change without affecting another.
- Table: menu and ordering
- Window: hours and current menu
- Receipt: return visit or feedback
- Hotel or partner location: dedicated guest menu
Design for the actual dining environment
Keep strong contrast, preserve the clear border around the code, and avoid placing it on reflective or heavily textured material. Test the smallest printed version from the expected distance in both bright and dim light. The landing page should load quickly on a phone and put the menu action first.
Measure access and the next action separately
Scan counts show which physical placements generate access. Ordering, booking, email capture, and review completion happen after the scan and should be measured on the destination. A placement with fewer scans can still be more valuable if it produces a higher completed-order rate.
Answers before you print
Can I change a menu PDF without reprinting the QR?
Yes, when a dynamic QR points to a managed destination that you update to the new PDF or menu page.
Should every table use a different QR code?
Only if table-level attribution changes a decision. Often one code per placement type or location is easier to manage.
Should the QR open a PDF or a web menu?
A mobile web menu is usually easier to navigate and measure. A properly sized PDF can work when it is tested carefully on phones.
